Hello, and welcome to the Discovery research division of Phenomenome. Our team includes researchers who are devoted to investigating the molecular mechanisms of disease. As Director of the Discovery Research team, I aid in coordinating the various research programs, and act as a link between Discovery and other divisions of the company. Since joining PDI in 2002, I have had the opportunity to combine my expertise in cancer genomics with the development of cutting-edge metabolomic and informatics tools to garner new insights into processes involved in cancer risk and development. During this time, our team's research focus has expanded to include several major cancers, as well as mental health disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. To date, we have filed patents covering discoveries in over 20 different human health disorders.
The research performed at Phenomenome is aimed at reducing disease incidence rates through early detection and prevention strategies. Our primary focus is the discovery of imbalances in metabolic systems that are associated with various diseases, and identifying approaches for restoring those imbalances. Our research typically transitions from initial studies that identify metabolic imbalances in clinically defined populations of patients, to bench work aimed at unravelling the precise mechanisms responsible for the imbalance and its contribution to the disease. Our research encompasses the development of screening methods to measure metabolic imbalances as risk factors for disease prior to the appearance of clinical symptoms, as well as developing therapeutic approaches for restoring the imbalance and reducing the associated risk.
